US expresses concern over prolonged detention of its citizen in Venezuela

Washington, Dec 15 : The United States has expressed its concern over the health condition of its citizen Joshua Holt, who on December 12 was charged after more than 17 months of detention in Venezuela by the intelligence agency SEBIN.

State Deparment spokesperson Heather Nauert said here in a press statement on Thursday that the US Embassy personnel were not permitted to observe Mr Holt’s court hearing on December 12.
It said the health of Mr Holt continued to deteriorate under the custody of SEBIN, the Venezuelan intelligence agency.

Press Statement said the Embassy has repeatedly requested consular access pursuant to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
“Venezuela is legally obligated in accordance with the Convention to permit US consular officers to visit US citizens detained there.
