Army says crossfire killed Asif, police registers FIR
Srinagar: North Kashmir’s frontier district- Kupwara on Sunday remained on boil against the killing of a Sumo Driver on late Saturday evening when militants and army traded fire in the region.
The army spokesman told KNS that the slain sumo driver identified as Asif Iqbal Bhat, son of Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, of Thindpura was killed in a “crossfire.” The spokesman added that the investigations have been ordered and same are in progress.
However, the family members of the slain Kupwara youth allege that forces fired upon them when they went to get the last glimpse of Asif. “We got a call that Asif has been killed and I along with my father went to see him during which forces fired upon us,” the brother of a slain youth as per the KNS correspondent told reporters.
He added that earlier his brother who was by profession a sumo driver got a call from a passenger who asked booked a ride from Batapora stop.
“Soon after he went out, he was killed. My brother had received bullet in his head,” he said.
Asif’s brother said that when he along with his father tried to recover their beloved. The forces fired upon on their house in a indiscriminate way.
SSP Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain told reporters that an inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the killing of the Sumo driver thoroughly.
He said that FIR will be registered in this regard. “People claim that Army present in the area fired upon the sumo drive. The committee formulated will thoroughly investigate the matter and nobody is above the law. We will investigate that on what circumstances the fire was opened and anybody found guilty will be dealt with strictly according to the law,” he said.
