Two policemen killed in SMHS Hospital shootout
SRINAGAR, FEB 06: Two policemen were killed today after militants’ attacks police party accompanying a Pakistani militant at SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
Police said that the Lashkar-e-Toiba Pakistani militant Naveed Jat who was in police custody was brought for medical checkup where militants carried out an attack to free him.
Police said that the militants opened firing on the police party which resulted in on spot death one police constable and left other critically injured who succumbs latter to his injuries. The militant also managed to escape from the clutches of police during the shootout.
The slain policemen have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed and Babar Ahmad. A carbine rifle of one of the cops is also reported missing, the official said.
The area has been cordoned off and searches are on to track down the ultras, he added.
Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzulla, who belongs to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba group, was arrested in August 2015 from Kulgam after he and one of his aide attacked a BSF convoy in Udhampur.
The attack came days after four Indian soldiers were killed and another injured in the ceasefire violation initiated by Pakistan in Rajouri district on Sunday. (PTK)
