Schools reopen after winter break, ‘Welcome Day’ to be celebrated on March 5
SRINAGAR, FEB 26 : All High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) reopened on Monday after winter break in Kashmir valley.
However, Primary and Middle Schools are scheduled to reopen on March 5, after the vacations.
Despite cold weather conditions, students from class 9 to Higher Secondary institutions were seen marching towards their respective schools, some of them in colourful uniforms.
Since early morning, school children dressed in multi-colour uniforms were seen rushing towards their respective institutes. The children expressed happiness over rejoining their schools after the winter-break.
“I want to see my classmates, I cannot wait to reach school,” Shakir Ahmad, a 9th class student, said while waiting for his school bus in Srinagar.
Another student Shazra 12th Khotigah said that it’s really great that we start again our school after the long winter break. She said that we are happy to meet with classmates and other friends.
“I feel happy and excited to see my school after a long winter break, we are happy that our schools have started again,” said a group of students from Tyndale Biscoe Higher Secondary School.
“I feel happy to join my classes again after spending more than two months at home,” a student from Srinagar while waiting for his school bus at Nawa Bazar said.
He said that during the period of two months he missed his teachers, his classmates, friends and his school. “Now, the reopening of school from today has brought happiness among me,” he said.
“Children are happy to meet their friends as well their teachers in schools after a long gap. We as parents feel motivated to see schools resuming their academic session today. We want our children to excel in their life,” said a group of parents in Srinagar.
With reopening of schools from 9th to 12th , the city witnessed intermittent traffic jam on busy routes particularly Lal Chowk in morning and evening as school buses and cabs plied through these routes.
Meanwhile, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr G N Itoo said that 26th February and 5th March shall be celebrated as “Welcome Day” for students and no academic activity shall be carried out on this day in the schools.
He expressed his best wishes for the students. He directed all the Heads and staff of the institutions to greet the students with love and affection and share the experience of the activities carried out during winter vacations. (PTK)
