AAP to ‘gherao’ PM’s residence over his ‘silence’ on Unnao, Kathua rape cases
New Delhi, Apr 13 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced that it will ‘gherao’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on April 15 over the latter’s silence on the Unnao and Kathua rape cases.
“In view of the Unnao and Kathua rape cases, and increasing attacks against women across the country, we will ‘gherao’ the PM’s residence on April 15 over his (Mr Modi’s) silence on these issue. On Sunday, at 1700 hrs, we gather outside the Patel Chowk Metro Station and then march towards the PM’s residence,” senior AAP leader Gopal Rai told reporters here.
He said that after April 15, the party will also launch a countrywide campaign on the same.
“We demand that PM should break his ‘silence’. The accused BJP MLA (Kuldeep Singh Sengar) in Unnao rape case be arrested, and strict action be taken against the perpetrators of the Kathua rape case where a eight-year-old girl was brutally raped and then killed,” Mr Rai said.
Attacking the Prime Minister, he said, “Na to unko kisi ke mann ki baat sunai de raha hey, na dil ke baat sunai de raha hey, na dard sunai de raha hey (He is not listening to anyone’s mann ki baat neither their desire nor their woes. It is beyond my understanding, Mr Modi who speaks a lot, how come he remain ‘quiet’ on such matter.”
“What is the reason of Mr Modi’s silence?,” he questioned.
Mr Rai also alleged that the BJP and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are trying to shield the Unnao rape accused MLA Sengar.
It may be mentioned that Congress President Rahul Gandhi late on Thirsday night led a candlelight vigil at India Gate here to protest against the Unnao rape, and brutal rape of minor in J&K’s Kathua.
