Kathua case accused already in jail, stone pelters hurting interests of J&K: Govt spokesperson

Srinagar, Apr 19 : As the student protests refuse to die down in the valley over the rape and brutal murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua, Works Minister and state government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar on Thursday said there is no reason for these protests as the case is already solved and accused have been arrested.
Mr Akhtar said that people pelting stones in the name of the Kathua girl are only hurting the image and interests of the state.
“What is there to protest about? Case is solved, chargesheet filed, accused in custody, trial on. Those who still pelt stones in name of the poor girl of Kathua are only hurting the image and interests of the state,” Mr Akhtar wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“What is the occasion for protests, stonepelting when case is solved, accused in jail and trial on? Shouldn’t they be attending classes instead,” he added.
Over a dozen students were injured in clashes with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian, where students hit the streets on Thursday, demanding death penalty for the culprits in Kathua rape case. Meanwhile, many collges and Highers Secondary Schools (HSSs) remained closed in the valley as a precautionary measure.(UNI)
