Govt removes AFSPA from Meghalaya, 8 Police Stations in Arunachal

New Delhi,Apr 23: The Government has withdrawn Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the state of Meghalaya on March1,2018 while in Arunachal Pradesh areas under AFSPA have been reduced to 8 Police Stations from 16, a Home Ministry source said here on Monday.

The AFSPA remains enforced in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts.

“Balemu, Bhalukpong Feijusa, Balijan and Sunpura police stations are among the eight stations where AFSPA will continue till further review”, the source said.

They said there has been substantial improvement in security situation in the North-Eastern states over the last four years.

The year 2017 recorded the lowest insurgency incidents and casualties among the civilians and security forces since 1997.
