CASO continues in woods near LoC in north Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 28 : A massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by security forces continued in the woods near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, where alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by militants from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PaK) on Thursday.
However, so far no contact was established with militants in the woods, official sources said on Saturday.
They said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PaK at Jumagund in Kupwara on Thursday night under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged, the militants opened fire which was retaliated by the troops.
The militants escaped and a massive search operation was launched in the woods. It was not immediately clear whether the militants fled back to PaK, the sources said. The CASO continued from different directions in the forest after security forces from other camps also joined the operation.
A large number of trained militants are waiting in launch pads to sneak into this side as the snow on the upper reaches had started melting. However, security forces are already on high alert to foil any attempt by militants to enter into this side.
Defence sources said that Northern Army Commander (NAC) Lt Gen D Anbu was given a detailed brief in Srinagar on Friday about the measure taken to foil any infiltration attempt by militants from PaK. (UNI )
