Kupwara youth shines in National Karate Championship at UP

Wins gold medal, says six months practice proves fruitful

Srinagar, May 01 : A 23-year-old youth from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has won gold medal in National Karate Championship 2018 that was held in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Faheem Rashid Malik, resident of Kalmoona Kupwara who represented Uttrakhand state has bagged gold medal in the championship.
The championship was organized by All Bahrat Shotokan Karate-Do Federation, which is approved by Karate Association of India.
In the championship, 23-year-old youth won gold medal in senior category of National Karate championship in the Championship which was held in Uttar Pradesh State.
Faheem while talking to this reporter said that “I am very much happy with my performance. I had been practicing very hard from last six months, it was difficult, but I still won the fight.”
“I faced ups and downs to reach here due to lack of facilities but despite that I didn’t stop,” he said, adding that Fareed Khan, his coach has been guiding, teaching and supporting since day one.
“My coach spends every single penny from his pocket and took me to the competitions,” he said.
Faheem has earlier participated in state level competitions and has bagged two gold medals.
“Faheem has made the state proud by his performance; we congratulate and wish his luck for future. He has shown excellence,” Master Farheed Khan his Coach said, adding that “this is really a proud moment for us.”
“I participated through Uttarakhand Jeet Kune-Do Association Academy, now changed into Warriors Club Uttrakhand that was founded by Fareed Khan, my coach,” Faheem said.
Notably, Malik completed his graduation from Kashmir University and went to Dehradun Uttarakhand for his Masters.
Presently he is pursuing masters in Sociology at DAV College Dehradun Uttrakhand. (KNS)
