South Kashmir residents halt train to protest police raids, arrests
Srinagar: Residents of Arwani village in south Kashmir Friday held sit in on the railway track near Bijbehara Station and halted the Banihal-Baramulla train to protest against arresting of five persons in nocturnal police raids.
Local sources said that police conducted nocturnal raids in Arwani village of south Kashmir and arrested at least five persons.
As the news about the raids and arrests spread the locals started protesting against police by raising slogans early today. Soon the protesters increased in number and they marched towards the nearby railway station Bijbehara and held a sit on the track.
The protesters were demanding release of the arrested persons.
The Baramullah-Banihal rail was halted when reports last came in.
