Coimbatore, Jun 9 : Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has granted approval for extension of Deemed to be university status to Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS).
A Varsity release here on Saturday said that the Joint University Grants Commission (UGC) & AICTE Expert committee visited KITS (Deemed to be University) last year to review the progress of the institution.
Impressed by the sprawling campus, excellent infrastructure, serene learning ambience, exceptional residential facilities, student diversity, faculty competence, industry tie-ups and placements, International Internships,
student start-ups , cutting edge research and funding from Government agencies, the joint Expert committee unanimously recommended extension of deemed to be University status to Karunya for a period of five years.
With the approval from AICTE for all the B.Tech, M.Tech and Management programmes, the institution is poised to make a significant impact in the field of higher education, the release said.
The focus of the Institution is to develop products and patents in the areas of social concern, food, water, energy and healthcare is visible in all its programmes and tangible in the services rendered to the society.
The diverse and unique UG & PG programmes, including the new B.Tech in Robotics & Automation and Mechatronics are very much in demand owing to the high academic standards. The state-of-art studios for Media and Communication worth Rs 10 crore that includes facilities for TV production, post production, radio program production, game production, animation, artificial intelligence, graphics, audio, dubbing and music, preview theatres, 15 Research /Centers of Excellence, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Cell, excellent sports facilities are an added attraction to the students.
As KITS is offering scholarships to the tune of Rs 5 crore this year, many meritorious and needy students have been eagerly seeking admissions at Karunya, the release added.
