More than 100 LPG cylinders blast in fire
Patna, Jun 09 : More than 100 LPG cylinders exploded near Bypass under Deedarganj police station area here today.
Fire Officer (Patna City) Surendra Singh said that the accident took place when LPG cylinders were being downloaded from a truck at an LPG godown. He said the fire started from one of the cylinders when it came in contact with silencer and engine of the truck, which were hot as the truck reached the godown from bottling plant. He said that the truck in process caught fire, leading to blast of more than 100 LPG cylinders loaded on the vehicle.
Mr Singh said that 450 LPG cylinders were loaded on the truck when the mishap took place. He said that the other LPG cylinders rolled from the truck under the impact of intense heat and fell on the ground at a good distance. He said that around 10 fire tenders from Patna City, Lodipur, Kankarbagh and Sachivalaya fire stations rushed to the spot and firemen struggled for more than one and half hours to douse the flame.
Director General (Fire Service) Ravindra Kumar visited the spot to make an on-the-spot assessment.
A fire officer said that a godown of chemicals used in manufacturing detergent in the neighbourhood also caught fire and firemen controlled it by spraying foam. He said that loss of properties in fire were being estimated. He said that the truck was completely burnt in the mishap.
