Rain continues to lash Mysuru Region

Madikeri/Hassan/Chikkamagaluru, June 12 : South West Monsoon rain continued to lash Mysuru region throwing normal life out of gear and Charmudi ghat section in Chikkamagaluru District was cut off from the main land with flood waters gushing on the roads, landslides reported in some part of the ghat section and vehicular movement has became impossible.
With the continues rain lashing, inflow into major reservoirs are increasing day by day since last one week.
In the ghat section, vehicles were seen stranded for about 10 km and hundreds of people including tourists facing hardship with no water or food available.
The forest department with the help police and fire force trying to clear the roads by removing debris.
The schools and colleges, which remained closed on Monday as precautionary measure, however opened today despite rain continuing.
Revenue officials said Kodagu district received very heavy to heavy rains on Sunday but the intensity weakened on Monday however, resurfaced on Tuesday.
The district received 104.56 mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Monday. It had received 22.60 mm of rainfall on this day last year. Madikeri continued to receive the highest rainfall at 116.65 mm of rainfall, followed by Somawarpet with 104.12 mm of rainfall and Virajpet with 92.90 mm of rainfall, according to the Information Department.
Control rooms have been set up in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, offices of taluk headquarters and the municipal councils in the taluk headquarters to assist people in case of heavy rains and flooding in the district.
Heavy rains have thrown life out of gear in Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts. Many roads were flooded obstructing vehicular movement. There was tree fall and electricity supply has been hit. The connectivity between Horanadu and Kalasa in Mudigere taluk has been affected as the bridge across the Bhadra is submerged in water. The water level in the Hemavati reservoir at Goruru has been rising with the increase in inflow. On Monday, the water level in the reservoir stood at 2,874 ft against the full reservoir level of 2,922 ft. Last year on this day, the water level was 2,852 ft.
Several houses were damaged. A wall of a confectionery store collapsed near the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Arkalgud town. The house owner had to move out along with his family. No one was injured in the incident. Many roads in Arkalgud taluk were inundated. Vehicular movement was badly hit. A tree fall near Bage in Sakleshpur taluk blocked traffic between Belur and Sowarpet in Kodagu district. The rain has hampered vehicular movement in many places in Chikkamagaluru district.
As the water level in Bhadra river increased, the bridge constructed across the river near Horanadu was submerged in water. This stopped movement of vehicles between Kalasa and Horanadu. Chikkamagaluru district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Sringeri, Koppa, N.R. Pura and Mudigere taluks on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner M.K. Shreerangaiah has said schools would remain open in Chikkamagaluru, Tarikere, and Kadur taluks.
Meanwhile the water level in KRS has reached 82 feet against full capacity of 124.80 feet with inflow of 17000 cusecs and outflow was just 323 cusecs . Last year, during the same period, the water level stood at 67.63 ft.
Due to heavy rain in the catchment areas of Wynad in Kerala the inflow into the Kabini Reservoir has touched to 22937 cusecs with level reading 2265 feet against the maximum level of 2284 feet.
In the Harangi reservoir in Kodagu district the inflow was 4800 cusecs and water level stood at 2806 feet against maximum level of 2859 feet.
