Akshay Kumar-sponsored marathon reaches Srinagar after covering 14,500 km
Srinagar, June 30 : Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar-sponsored ‘Bharat Ke Veer Ultra Marathon’, dedicated to martyred soldiers, reached Srinagar after covering 14,500 kms through 24 states of the country in about seven months.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Border Security Force (BSF) said the marathon was flagged off by Deputy Inspector Genral (DIG), BSF, from Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post on December 1, 2017.
A renowned marathon runner, Samir Singh of Kanaheda village of Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh and his six-member team took the challenge of completing the marathon.
The team is going to cover a distance of approximately 15,663 km along the land border and coastline of the country through 24 states and seven Union Territories (Approx through 1,000 cities and villages) to commemorate the martyrs. The Ultra Marathon will finish at JCP Attari, Amritsar in Punjab, he said.
The marathon participants, who covered a distance of about 14,500 Km through Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, all seven Sister states of North East, Bihar, UP, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and running the toughest phase through Ladakh region, were received with warmth by DIG and other officers and jawans at BSF Frontier Headquarters, Humhama in Srinagar on Friday.
