Delhi High Court passes order to restrain DMRC workers from going on strike tomorrow
New Delhi, June 29 : Delhi High Court on Friday after hearing a petition passed an order to restrain the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employees from going on a strike on Saturday.
About 9,000 Non Executive Employees threatened to observe a shutdown of Metro services from midnight if their demands for promotions and pay hikes were not met by Friday.
A section of the DMRC Staff Council has been demonstrating at the Yamuna Bank and Shahdara Metro stations since June 19.
Delhi High Court Justice Vipin Sanghi today after hearing the petition passed an interim order by holding that prima facie, the proposed action of the metro staff does not seem to be justified or legal. Justice Sanghi observed that DMRC is running a public utility service which caters to around 25 lakh citizens of Delhi on a daily basis and that sufficient notice had not been given by DMRC and the conciliation proceedings are still in progress.
After hearing the urgent petition of DMRC Acting Chief Justice Delhi High Court Gita Mittal assigned it for hearing before Delhi High Court Justice Sanghi who after hearing said “… I am inclined to grant ad-interim relief as sought in the application. Accordingly, the respondents (employees) are restrained from going on strike on June 30 or till further orders in the matter”.
