Body of Clerics demand release of their colleague from Kulgam police lock up

Kulgam, July 20 : The body of Kashmir clerics Friday threatened to stir an agitation if their colleague is not released from police station.

According to Anjuman Ulmae Aima Masajid (AUAM) Kashmir, one of the Kulgam clerics is languishing in police station Devsar from past four days. “Hafiz Reyaz-ul-Islam who leads prayers at Gafran Jamia Masjid Kulgam has been picked up on charges of participating in the funeral prayers of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Hafiz Shukoor Dar of Soput. This is not only injustice but a direct interference in our religion,” said one of the clerics to news agency CNS.

He said that Reyaz besides leading prayers is a teacher in a private school. “The school attendance register shows him present in the educational institute on the day when the funeral of Shukoor Ahmed Dar was offered,” he said and added that AUAM has decided to hit to roads if their colleague is not released.

Hafiz Reyaz-ul-Islam hails from Khadi Banihal.

“We are shocked over his arrest. The clerics are now being intimidated and they even can’t perform their religious affairs. We know he didn’t participate in the last rites of LeT militant but even he would have done this, there was nothing wrong in it, because, in Islam, it is the obligation of faithful to participate in the last rites of every Muslim.

When contacted, a police official from Devsar Police Station refused to comment on the issue. (CNS)
