Article 35-A: Traders hold protest at Parimpora

Srinagar: New Kashmir Fruit Association on Thursday warned against tinkering with Article 35A of the constitution that guarantees special privileges to Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

Amid rising sense of unease ahead of the hearing in the Supreme Court on August 6, scores of members of the association marched from Parimpora fruit Mandi to New bus stand Srinagar chanting anti-India slogans. Pro-freedom slogans were also raised during the march.

The protesting members of the association said that attack on 35-A will have devastating results, besides it would reopen the question of state’s accession with the union of India and would invalidate the constitutional bridge between the state and Indian union.

They said that the state subject law has to be protected at any cost and no tampering with this law would be tolerated.
