Srinagar, Aug 2 : Security forces have intensified searches and frisking in the summer capital, Srinagar, to foil any attempt by militants to smuggle in arms and ammunition into the city ahead of Independence Day (ID).
Security forces have established checkpoints at several places in the city and outskirts, checking passing vehicles, particularly two wheelers, and frisking travelers.
Check points have been established at several places in the city, including Kamarwari, Kaksarai, Batamaloo, Jahangir Chowk and MA road. The security personnel are checking passing vehicles, particularly two wheelers, before allowing them to go ahead.
“We have directions to conduct random searches of vehicles and check the identity cards of those boarding the vehicles,” a security force officer said at Budshah Bridge.
“All three wheelers besides motorcycles and scooters and cars, particularly with license plates from other districts, were being properly searched before allowing them to go,” they added.
