Censorship ‘New Normal’ in Modiji’s ‘New India’: Cong

New Delhi, Aug 2 : Reacting to reports of several journalists of a prominent news channel resigning or asked to go on leave by the management for their ‘anti-government’ reporting, the Congress on Thursday said that censorship was the ‘New normal in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘New India’.
In a series of tweets on social media, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said,’Censorship-‘New Normal’ in Modiji’s ‘New India’. Method-1st boycott the channel for 3 months. Then, make them crawl. Message -Only ‘Modi media’, Say No to ‘Khoji media’.’
‘Operation – ABP News Channel ‘Kamal’ Executor – Mr Narender Modi, Mr Amit Shah. Objective -Suppress ‘truth being spoken to power’,’he said in another tweet.
The reaction by the party came after reports that a prominent anchor of a news channel , ABP News, has resigned .
The reports also said that the editorial head and managing editor of the channel announced his departure from the channel on Wednesday night.
They also said that another anchor of the channel, who had been highlighting the shortcomings of the Modi government through his reportage and video blogs, too had been asked to go on leave for 15 days as the management told him not to report to work during this period.
AICC spokesperson and former Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari termed the development as ‘most unfortunate.’
‘If this has happened under Government pressure- MOST UNFORTUNATE -Owners of ABP News must explain. Media Freedom imperilled,’Mr Tewari tweeted.
