Dolphin Students talk Design for a greener tomorrow
Srinagar: Under the Talk to Know Conference, Initiated by Dolphin International School last month, the school organised an experiential visit for 10th standard students to an upcoming design studio called Kashmir Innovation Lab a.k.a Kilab, collectively run by young and enthusiastic designers from Kashmir namely Burhaan, Mamoon, Salim and Ashfaq. Burhaan, a young designer from NID facilitated the interaction of students with the space with a series of observations, hands on tasks, brainstorming sessions, reflective discussions and organic eating.
The experience of being in a space that practices permaculture and innovative up-cycling, opened students’ eyes to the idea of design thinking for informed and purposeful use of resources. The interaction also added to their understanding of the on-going up cycling project on Dolphin School campus. Students learned about different techniques of composting, while also understanding the science behind all natural farming.
Students’ interaction with budding entrepreneurs from Kashmir inspired them to think beyond conventional career options and embrace the possibilities available today. Most students found the experience “truly enlightening” and showed interest in applying their learning to their own contexts. The various techniques of permaculture and organic composting stayed with them as take aways for their families and farms at home.
The entire experience served two important purposes of Dolphin International School this year – Constructive dialogue with young influencers and extending learning to larger community. The initiative has opened doors for a cleaner and greener environment, along with the growth of aware and responsible citizens of tomorrow.
