Protests over abrogation of Article 35-A continue for 4th day
Srinagar, Aug 04 : The protests against the abrogation of Article 35-A continued for the fourth consecutive day in Kashmir with regional political parties and traders taking to the streets to show unity over guarding the constitution.
Both the regional political parties including National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to streets today and raised slogans in favour of the Article 35-A.
Earlier, the traders have also started their week-long protest to demand protection of Article 35-A. Kashmir Inc, a joint group of traders announced their week-long protest, saying that they will protect the State Subject Laws with their blood.
Moreover, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comrising SYed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have also called for the complete shutdown on Sunday and Monday, appealing people to observe shutdown to protest against the abrogation of Article 35-A.
Meanwhile, NC carried out a protest march in Srinagar against the onslaught on Article 35-A.NC General Secretary and MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar who was leading the portest said that this protest was organized in all the district headquarters of the Valley to mark a protest against any tampering with Article 35-A.
Several leaders of the party also participated in the protest.
The protesting members demanded quashing of the petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the Article 35-A which defines the permanent residents of the state.
Meanwhile, PDP also staged a protest in Srinagar against what they termed as the onslaught on Article 35-A of the constitution.
The protest was led by party’s chief spokesperson, Rafi Ahmad Mir during which he alleged that there are forces in New Delhi who are trying to break the bridge between India and Jammu and Kashmir, which is Article 35-A.
He said that the Articles 370 and 35-A were the only bridges, which connect India and the state of Jammu Kashmir.
Several PDP leaders also take part in the protest march.
Meanwhile, hundreds of traders belonging to different associations also staged a joint protest over the issue.
The members of trade bodies assembled at the Bund here and marched towards the press enclave.
They were carrying banners and placards, displaying ‘pro-Article 35-A slogans’.
The traders vowed to fight if the Article is repealed by Supreme Court.
