Train services suspended across Kashmir

Srinagar: Authorities on Sunday suspended the train services across Kashmir Valley in wake of the militant killings in Shopian and the shutdown called by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) against the assault on special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior railway official told that train service has been suspended for two days in view of the JRL called shutdown and fears of protests in south Kashmir, where six people, including five militants were killed in a fierce gun-battle and ensuing protests on Saturday.

All trains that run between Budgam-Srinagar-Islamabad-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region shall remain suspended, the official said.

Similarly, trains will not chug on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he added.

Valley is observing a complete shutdown in respone to the call given by JRL over the attempts to abrogate Article-35A, which gives special rights and privileges to the people of Kashmir. Agencies
