KEA seeks end to harassment at checkposts
Srinagar, Aug 13: Kashmir Economic Forum on Monday called for an end of the undue harassment by Commercial Tax Department of Kashmir bound goods trucks at Lakhanpur.
Kashmir Economic Alliance Vice Chairman, Ajaz Shahdhar expressed his anguish over the harassment of Kashmiri Traders by the officials at the check post.
He said after the introduction of Goods and Service Tax (GST), Government had assured traders that there won’t be any physical verification or checking at check posts particularly at Lakhanpur and Lowermunda, but authorities didn’t keep the word and have now started again harassing the traders.
“In the name of physical verification Kashmir bound goods trucks are stranded for days together on the pretext of verification and many undue penalties, fines and seizing of goods of traders has become a norm, only to achieve targets of tax collection,” he said.
