Police officer’s brother among 3 abducted by unknown men released

Kulgam, Aug 31: Militants have released the brother of a police officer who had been abducted by them from his Kulgam based residence here in South Kashmir.

   Gowhar Ahmed Malik, a resident of Kathpora Kulgam who happens to be the brother of a DSP rank police officer was picked up by a couple of gunmen on Thursday night.

   Besides Gowhar Ahmed Malik, militants on Thursday night had abducted four other relatives of policemen.

   Reports said that a large number of people visited the house of Gowhar Ahmed Malik and enquired about his well-being. Without elaborating anything, Gowhar Ahmed told CNS that a couple of gunmen picked him up on Thursday night and this time they asked him to go to home.

   Similarly, Muhammad Shafi Mir, a resident of Naman Pulwama, and Amair Rather, son of Abdul Salaam Rather from Kulgam district were also released.

A police official said  that they all have safely reached to their respective houses.

   Meanwhile, Police confirmed that ‘some abductions’ have taken place in south Kashmir during last night.

“Some incidents of abduction have come to the notice of Police in #South Kashmir,” police said in a tweet.

“We are ascertaining details and circumstances. In due course it shall be placed in public domain,” the tweet added.

Pertinently, at least seven persons, all close relatives of policemen have been abducted by suspected militants in the southern part of Kashmir.

The abductions have taken place after police arrested at least four relatives of militants including father of Hizb Commander, Riyaz Naiko.  (CNS)
