Pahalgam (KPS): Amid tall claims of the government of providing better road connectivity in the health resorts of the valley, Seer Hapatnad road falling in Pahalgam constituency is in a dilapidated condition as it has turned into swimming pool by developing ditches and holes causing inconvenience to the commuters particularly students and employees to reach their respective destinations.

This road connects nearly ten villages like Mangam, Salia, Panzmulla, Brad and Hapatnad to the main town and the residents have to face lot of immense hardships to reach their respective destinations despite the assurances given by the concerned authorities and the concerned MLA.

The residents alleged that the bad condition of this road is creating problems for the children, pregnant women and elders during rainy session as this road supports a huge population and connects ten villages to the Anantnag town.

The residents of the said area alleged that the officials of concerned department have given a tender for the repair of this road to a man who is irresponsible and enjoys political influence as he has started the repairing work on this road one year ago but not even ditches and holes have been repaired so far results in continuous sufferings of residents even when they have to ferry patients to District Hospital.

Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir, Sami Arif said that “We are not only repairing the road but also widening the road and planting underground pipes for proper drainage that consumes lot of time. The residents should keep patience, no doubt the public is worst hit but we are leaving no stone unturned to repair this road as soon as possible.

“People are complaining about the problems they are facing but at the same time they need to understand that we have put both machinery and man power in progress to ensure the speedy repairing of this road and macadamized it in a short time”, he added.

“The bridge at Manigam got crumbled nearly a year ago. Soon after two JE’s were suspended and two most honest JE’s namely Laeeq Ahmad and Iftikhar were brought to job but both were wiped away as the contractor concerned could make it up with these honest officers”, said Rayaz Ahmad wani, a local  resident.

“As a result the public is the worst hit as the bridge stands incomplete till date.Public is demanding for the urgent completion of the bridge and the re adjustment of the two honest officers”, he added.

“The residents added that the previous government also assured to repair this road but the situation is still unchanged as the problems like non maintenance of roads, water pipes, development of ditches and holes on the major part of the road have not repaired yet, the condition has worsened in the said area as the concerned authorities are showing deaf ear,” said Aijaz Ahmad, another local.

The passenger vehicles have also suffered damages due to the bad condition of the road. “Our vehicles have incurred heavy damages. Majority of the drivers avoid plying their vehicles on this road and as a result, the passengers have to bear the brunt,” said a driver M Shafi.
