Clashes escalate in south Kashmir’s Shopian, 2 injured
Shopian: At least two people were injured today as government forces lobbed tear smoke shells and fired warning shots after massive protests broke out in Laddi area of this south Kashmir district, where anti-militancy operation was launched in the wee hours today.
Scores of youth hit the streets in Laddi village here and clashed with the government forces when they were withdrawing from the area this afternoon, witness told Kashmir Reader.
Govt forces, they said fired shots in air after numerous tear smoke shells failed ineffective to disperse stone pelting protesters.
“The clashes have turned fierce. Angry youth are continuing renewed assaults on the forces,” witnesses said.
According to witnesses, at least twenty people have been injured in the clashes. However, the officials confirmed injury to only two people.
Meanwhile, the militants have reportedly managed to flee after engaging government forces in a brief but fierce gun-battle.
