Hunger strike of SSA teachers will continue: Wani

Says will hold candle light march on Sep 11, mega demonstration from SK park on Sunday

Srinagar, Sep 10 (PR): Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) executive and provincial members on Monday held a state level emergency meeting at Srinagar under the chairmanship of its president Ab. Qayoom Wani.
In the meeting according to a statement issued to KPS, all the leaders condemned the silence of the state Govt over the legitimate demands of SSA teachers, head teachers, RMSA masters and head masters like implementation of 7th pay commission and linking of their salaries with state exchequer.
Wani said that besides peaceful demonstration from last four months in three regions of the state including continuous chain hunger strike on both the provincial headquarters Jammu and Srinagar.
“The government seemed unmoved which compelled us to announce and opt other options of agitation. Besides the continuous hunger strike TJAC has decided to go for a candle light march from Pratap park to Raj Bhawan on Tuesday day 11/09/2018 and the same candle light march will be held at press enclave Jammu under the leadership of Ganesh Khajuria and Vinod Sharma besides mega demonstration of teachers will be held on 16 September from press enclave Jammu,” Wani said.
He said that keeping in view the support from the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and civil societies ,trade union, political parties, religious organisations, social organisations , Kashmir Economic Alliance, Chamber of Commerce and private school association, journalists, political organisations, lawyers, pensioners welfare association and people from all the walks of the society without any caste ,creed, colour ,region and religion.
Keeping in view their moral support, the TJAC leadership has changed its programme of mass demonstration on working days and has decided to go for mass demonstration on Sunday 16 September 2018 for the larger interest of the students in particular and the common people in general so that the future of our students may not hamper.
“This day will be observed as mega demonstration day and solidarity day with SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters for the resolution of their levitate demands all the teachers irrespective of their cadre and position are expected to attend the mega demonstration in 16 September 2018 at Shari Kashmir park at 10am to show Solidarity with teaching fraternity,” he said.
Wani said that “our demands are legitimate and there is no moral or legal ground for govt to delay in implementing 7th pay commission in favour of SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters, besides linking their salary with state sector.”
The leaders in TJAC retreated their stand that TJAC never wanted confrontation. “We believe in result oriented negotiations to resolve the issues so that our future generation may not suffer any more.
The leaders of TJAC said that “we do not to close the schools and come on roads if govt fails to understand the sensitivity of the issues we may be compelled to consult the parents and students organisation, civil societies, trade union, religious organisations, journalists, legal luminaries, literally organisations to take them on board to use this last option.
Wani thanked all those organisations, parents and students beside form print and electronic media who supported just cause and said “we are hopeful that they will continue to support just cause of nation builders, so that chaos and confusion in the department may end and the teaching fraternity may get a sigh of relief.”
