JKHCBA condemns arrest of Gautam Nawlekha, others
Srinagar, Sep 11 (PR): J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) on Tuesday condemned the incarceration of prominent human rights defender, Gautam Nawlekha by Indian government on ‘vexatious and flimsy’ charges.
While expressing solidarity with Nawlekha, Arundathi Roy and other arrested intellectuals, the JKHCBA in a statement issued to KPS it is clear that Gautam has raised voice against Indian atrocities and human rights violations in Kashmir from past thirty years and is a strong believer in resolving Kashmir dispute on the basis of principle of people’s right to self determination.
“These free thinkers are punished for holding political opinion on Kashmir dispute contrary to RSS and Sangh Parivar,” General Secretary JKHCBA Srinagar, Advocate GN Shaheen said.
He said that in fact the liberal voice in India is deliberately targeted for raising their voices for victims of state violence in Kashmir. “When the fascist regime lead by Narinder Modi in India is destroying the values of democracy and right to dissent hard times are ahead for saner voice in India,” he said.
He said that it has been the constant efforts of Indian government to suppress the intelligentsia and human rights defenders and “assassination of Jalil Andrabi was first glaring instance in the current phase of Kashmir history.”
