Deep depression over Bay of Bengal: Met issues red alert for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 20 :  The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD)has issued red, yellow and orange warning for the districts of Odisha, as a depression formed over East-Central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression today.
Latest observations and satellite imageries indicate that the depression over East-Central Bay of Bengal centered at about 400km of east-south-east of Puri is likely to move west-north-west and concentrate into a deep depression and cross Odisha during late night of September 20 and early morning of September 21.
The IMD has asked the Odisha government to prepare appropriately as several parts of the state will witness heavy to very heavy rain fall during the next 48 hours.
Rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at most places during the next 72 hours across districts of Odisha and decrease thereafter, the Met office said and issued red, yellow and orange warning for the districts of Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khorda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Naygarh and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Raygada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput districts of Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places over Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Nuapara, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore districts of Odisha.
It further said squally wind at the speed of 40-50kmph is likely to blow over the districts of coastal Odisha on September 20 and 21 and squally wind speed 30-40kmph is likely over districts of South-Interior Odisha on September 21.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture along and off Odisha coasts and the Central Bay and North Bay of Bengal in the next 72 hours and local cautionary signal number 3 has been hoisted in all the ports in Odisha
