Tripura detects more than 62,000 fake ration cards

Agartala, Sept 22 : Tripura government has ordered a fresh enquiry into the exiting beneficiaries following detection of more than 62,000 fake ration cards in the state after the new government came to power on March 3 last.
Minister of Civil Supplies Manoj Kanti Deb said here today that the information came to the fore after the mining of relevant information from digitized data base by the department of food and civil supply.
Before the process of digitization of ration cards, Tripura had a total 9,62,046 cards with total number of consumers at 39,40,277. But after the completion of the process of digitization the number of cards came down to 8,99,706 and the number of consumers came down to 36,59,501.
Altogether 62,340 ration cards proved to be fake in the name of 2,80,776 fake consumers.
He described this as a ‘massive scam’ of the long left front rule in the state. He asserted that a total quantity of 14,03,80 kg rice had been stashed away from ration shops with the help of the fake cards.
