Cyclist from Maharashtra turns ambassador for Valley tourism
Srinagar: A cyclist from Maharashtra, Vivek Lokur, embarked on an expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on Tuesday to spread a positive message among tourists across the country. Tourism Director, Kashmir, Tasaduq Jeelani flagged off the expedition.
Jeelani said Vivek would ‘spread a message about Kashmir being a safe place for travellers’. Stating that the cyclist would be an ‘ambassador of Kashmir tourism’, he said: “We welcome such sports enthusiasts here and will provide them all assistance so as to facilitate their expeditions.”
Vivek, who works with an insurance company, said he chose to start his journey from here to spread a message that Kashmir was completely safe for tourists. “I have been planning this cycling expedition for a long time. I am starting my journey from Kashmir as this place is unique, beautiful and it will set a right mood for the expedition,” he added.
Vivek said after spending a few days in Kashmir, I realised how negatively the place was portrayed.
“Whatever the media portrays about Kashmir is totally untrue. I have found this place safer than any part of the country. It is the most beautiful place, not only in India but in the world,” he added.
Earlier, Vivek had paddled 1,500 km during a cycling expedition in the UK.
Meanwhile, Jeelani said Kashmir was known for adventure sports and many tourists were visiting the Valley for mountain biking and other such activities.
