Drop Pathan from state cricket team, club urges JKCA
Srinagar: The Ghani Gliders Sports Club has urged the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) to drop Irfan Pathan from the state team.
At a meeting of the club held here on Monday, the club members expressed serious concern over the bad performance of the state team in the Vijay Hazare Tournament.
“The members said the team lost three matches in a row. It was the worst performance of the team. The members suggested that Irfan Pathan along with also some other non-performing players should be immediately dropped from the team. The state has a great talent in cricket but they (local players) don’t get a chance to play,” a club statement said.
“Therefore, it’s a humble request to the JKCA chief executive officer to immediately make a drastic change in the team so that the state’s image is saved in future matches. Moreover, there should be no place for players from outside J&K in the playing 11. They must (only) be appointed as a mentor or coach for the team,” it added.
Irfan Pathan was appointed the mentor-cum-player of the state team earlier this year.
