University questioned the authenticity of ‘Surgical Strike’, asked students to give proof of ‘Surgical Strike’
Jammu: Defying UGC’s circular to all universities to celebrate 29th September as ‘Surgical Strike Day’ , Jammu University today not only refused to celebrate it but also questioned the authenticity of the ‘Surgical Strike’ by asking the students to bring proof of ‘Surgical Strike’.
The University Grants Commission vide its order dated 19th September 2018 has asked all the universities of the country to celebrate 29thSeptember as ‘surgical Strike day’ by undertaking activities like a special parade by NCC units , calling ex servicemen to sensitize the students about the sacrifices made by the armed forces in protecting the borders. It has also asked the universities to upload the activities undertaken by them on the University Activity Monitoring Portal on the UGC’s website.
Reportedly when the students of Jammu University approached the office of the Dean Students Welfare with the written request to celebrate 29th September as ‘Surgical Strike day’, the Dean Students Welfare refused to celebrate it by questioning the authenticity of ‘Surgical Strike’ and even denied giving permission to the students to celebrate it in the campus. The students protested the decision of the university and disrupted the ongoing ‘Display your Talent’ program.
Reacting to the decision of the Jammu University not to celebrate September 29 as ‘surgical strike day’, Saket Singh Rathore, a student of the law department of Jammu University said that he along with other students of Jammu University had requested the university administration to celebrate the ‘Surgical Strike Day’ as per the UGC’s mandate, but shockingly the University administration not only blatantly refused to celebrate it without giving any reason but also questioned the authenticity of ‘Surgical Strike’ and asked us to give proof of surgical strike. The University official even directed the students not to celebrate it inside the campus.
Manmohan Singh another student of the Jammu University said that by questioning the authenticity of ‘Surgical Strike’ and denying to celebrate it , the University of Jammu has disrespected the soldiers of the country which is shameful and warrants condemnation from all nationalist voices of the country and if it is not celebrated , the students will not allow the university to hold any programme in the campus. “ by the way university administration is behaving ,It seems administration of Jammu University is taking directions from Pakistan and Kashmiri sepratisits’, said Manmohan.
Vikas Badhoria, a student of Human Rights , from Jammu University said that the Jammu University should have come on its own to celebrate the ‘Surgical Strike ‘ day as it is our state from where the ‘Surgical Strike’ was launched but shamefully it is the university of same state which is questioning the authenticity of ‘surgical strike’ .
The protesting students said that in the past also Jammu University has tried to gag the nationalist voices by refusing to give permission to hold seminar on illegal settlements of Rohingyas in the state on the pressure of Kashmiri separatists.
