Protests rock central Kashmir’s Budgam after 2 militants killed
Budgam 27 Sep : Two unidentified militants were killed today in a fierce gunfight with government forces in Panzan village of this central Kashmir district triggering off massive protests that left over a dozen people injured, many with pellets.
Official sources told Media that two unidentified militants were killed by army and special operations group (SOG) of police in the encounter that raged after a cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched in Panzan village here this morning.
The killings set off massive protests in the area. Scores of people hit the streets and stage demonstrations to protest the killing of militants, witnesses told Media.
Chanting slogans, the protesters hurled rocks on the government forces sparking off clashes. The government forces, witnesses said lobbed tear gas canisters and fired pellets to disperse protesters.
At least a dozen people sustained injuries in the pitched battle. Four of the people with pellet injuries were removed to Srinagar hospital for treatment, witnesses said.
