PaK PM denies copter violated Indian airspace
Jammu: Prime Minister of Pakistan-Administrate Kashmir (PaK) Raja Farooq Haider has said his helicopter did not violate the Indian airspace and it stayed within PaK limits near the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday.
“We were very close to Zero Line but we were within our airspace. Moreover, it was a civilian helicopter so the Indian Army should not have opened fire at it,” Pakistan’s ‘Dawn’ newspaper quoted Haider as saying.
“I had gone to Forward Kahuta to condole the death of the brother of one of my ministers and meet the residents of the area adjacent to the LoC. While we were passing through Abbaspur, the Indian Army suddenly opened fire at my helicopter. Luckily, we were not injured and the helicopter was not damaged,” he reportedly said.
Rejecting his statement, the Army said there was an airspace violation by a white civilian chopper. “It came 700 m inside the Indian territory and it was a clear violation of the Indian airspace,” said Lt Col Devender Anand, Jammu-based defence spokesperson.
Lieutenant Colonel Anand said as per the norms no helicopter could come within one kilometre of the LoC and no fixed-wing aircraft could come within 10 km on the either side. The military chopper has to inform the other side about its movement in advance. “But in this case, the Pakistani helicopter came 700 m inside the Indian territory,” he added.
