Srinagar, Oct 4 : The members of Jammu & Kashmiri language union (JKLU) on Thursday staged a protest in this capital city over the state government’s ‘apathy’ towards the Kashmiri language.
Reports reaching news gathering agency Global News Service said that dozens of union members, including women this afternoon assembled at Press Colony, Lal Chowk and held a protest demonstration against the alleged ‘official apathy’ towards the Kashmiri language. The protesters demanded 15 per cent reservation to Kashmiri subject in teacher recruitment conducted by services selection board, the creation of Rehbar-e-Zubaan scheme, the introduction of Kashmiri subject in RAMSA scheme and the introduction of Kashmiri subject at every higher secondary and college of Kashmir division and Chenab valley
“Government had issued an order in 2017 making the Kashmiri language compulsory in schools but nothing has been done on the ground. We went to many schools but children there are not being taught Kashmiri,” the protesters told GNS.
“We want promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language. We have almost lost our mother tongue, our identity as Kashmiris,” they added.
The protesters alleged that grave injustice was being done by the government by not implementing its own order making Kashmiri language compulsory in the schools.
