Unknown persons torch paddy crop of BJP candidate for municipal polls in Kulgam
Unknown persons on Thursday set ablaze paddy crop belonging to a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for upcoming municipal elections in Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Reports said that Khan’s family had gathered paddy in his field spread over one kanal for thrashing. They said that unknown persons torched the harvest, turning it into ashes. Khan has filed his nomination papers from Municipal committee Dooru -Verinag.
Militants have warned people against contesting the elections while separatist outfits have appealed for a boycott of the polls beginning October 8.
The four-phased ULB polls will commence from October 8 while the nine-phased panchayat polls will start from November 8. According to officials, 1697291 electors are eligible to vote in 1145 municipal wards across the state.
The National Conference and PDP have decided to stay away from the poll process, citing “assault” on Article 35-A which has been challenged in the Supreme Court. The Congress, however, has decided to join the poll fray “to not give BJP a field day.”
