Kishtwar youth ‘joins’ Lashkar
Doda: A youth (26) from the Keshwan area of mountainous Kishtwar district has reportedly joined the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
A gun-wielding picture of the youth, whose code name is Jamal ud Din, alias Abu Bakar, went viral on the social media on Friday, sending shock waves through the security circles in Kishtwar.
The police have, however, not yet confirmed whether he has joined the Lashkar-e-Toiba. Two local youths, including an MBA from the Ghat area of Doda district, joined militant ranks recently from the Chenab region this year.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishtwar, Rajinder Gupta said: “I have also seen the gun-wielding picture of Jamal ud Din of Keshwan, but we are verifying the facts. I am not aware whether the picture is original.”
“His two brothers approached us a couple of days ago after he went missing. According to them, Jamal is mentally unstable and has gone missing after a quarrel with his wife,” the SSP said.
Keshwan is a hilly terrain, around 35 km from the district headquarters.
According to sources, the youth went missing in September. They said a criminal case was registered against him in Kishtwar.
“The police have intensified their security grid in the upper reaches with the help of local sources, village defence committees, Army and the Special Operations Group to avert any attempts at reviving militancy in the region,” a senior security officer said. (Tribune)
