ULB Polls: 33 25 pc turn out thus far in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 8 : After the polling for the much awaited Urban Local Bodies election started on Monday, an official here informed that so far 33.25 per cent of polling has taken place in the Jammu district.
“The polling process started at 0700 hrs and till 1100 hrs, there has been 33.25 per cent of turnout,’ an official said.
The official added that the voting was proceeding smoothly and that no incident of any violence or problems related to law and order had been reported from any region.
Over 4.42 lakh voters will be exercising their franchise across Jammu district in the first phase of ULB elections.
Meanwhile, as many as 46 polling stations have been declared hypersensitive in Jammu district, consisting of one Municipal Corporation and seven Municipal Committees.
Polling will be conducted from 0700 hrs to 1600 hrs, and in all, 584 polling stations have been set up in the district including 505 in JMC and 79 in the municipal committees.
For the first time,voting will be done through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), while the counting will take place on October 20.
Among all the polling stations, 46 are declared hypersensitive in Jammu. All security arrangements, with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the para-military forces have been put in place.
The government has announced a holiday on Monday to facilitate larger participation from the people, in the election process.
The campaigning for the elections came to an end on Sunday morning at 0700 hours.
A total of 2,136 nominations were filed in the Jammu region, from 534 wards of Jammu Municipal wards and the Municipal Committees.
There are 75 Wards in the Jammu Municipal Corporation, which has a whopping 447 candidates, while the seven Municipal Committees in Jammu district have 294 candidates.
