NC defector Junaid questions legitimacy of Farooq’s election as MP

Says “what right leader of party boycotting elections has to do with the location of a polling booth”

Srinagar, Oct 13 : The National Conference (NC) defector and candidate for Municipal elections in Srinagar, Junaid Azim Matoo on Saturday questioned the legitimacy of the elections of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah who won last by-elections to Srinagar parliamentary constituency on a seven per cent turnout and said what the leader of a mainstream party boycotting ULB polls has to do with the shifting of a polling booth in Srinagar.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent, Matoo while talking to reporters after casting his vote here, said “these elections are for a credible leadership, transparency in public services and public welfare.”
Saying that people in mainstream boycotting elections owe too many explanations to the people who have seen a man like Farooq Abdullah winning Srinagar parliamentary by-poll on a seven per cent turnout, Matoo said “leader of a political party boycotting ULB and Panchayat polls is demanding shifting of a polling booth in Srinagar. What he has to do with the location of a polling booth when his own party is boycotting the elections.”
Claiming that post 96 elections have shown fluctuation in poll percentage but governments have been formed and popular regimes have ruled the state, Matoo said, “For the time being, the corporators have to be elected and corporators will choose Mayor with majority on their own choice.”
