IUST students clash with government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama

Pulwama: CRPF troopers and police on Tuesday burst tear smoke shells to break up a pro-freedom protest by the students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) here in this south Kashmir district.

Since early morning, students of IUST assembled at the campus and staged a pro-freedom demonstration against the killing of top Hizb commander Mannan Bashir Wani and his associate by the government forces in an encounter last week, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the students tried to march outside the campus. However, as soon as they came out of the varsity, a posse of government forces intercepted them.

“Angry students pelted rocks at the government forces, who responded by lobbing tear gas canisters. This led to the outbreak of fierce clashes,” witnesses said.

The clashes were going on when this report was filed.
