President accepts MJ Akbar’s resignation

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday evening accepted the resignation of Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar.
‘The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Mr M.J. Akbar from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution,’ an official communique from Rashtrapati Bhawan said.
Mr Akbar resigned earlier in the day succumbing to the immense pressure following charges of sexual harassment against him by about 20 women journalists in 1990s when Mr Akbar was the Editor in chief of the newspaper ‘Asian Age’.
