Srinagar, Oct 26 : Train service remained suspended for the fifth day on Friday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has urged people to hold protests after Friday prayers in their respective areas against death of seven civilians in a blast near encounter site in Kulgam on Sunday.
This is the 11th time that train service has been suspended in the Kashmir valley partially or fully since October 8, when first of the four-phased Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polling was held.
Train service will remain suspended today also in the valley as a fresh advisory was received last night from police, a senior railway official told UNI.
This is the sixth consecutive day train service remained suspended on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region since Sunday, when three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter in Kulgam.
He said train service, which was normal in north Kashmir on Sunday, remained suspended from Monday. No train will run on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir track today also, he added.
Since there was no prior announcement about the suspension of train service today, large number of people had arrived at different railway stations in the valley. However, they were disappointed after being informed about the suspension of the train service today also. They alleged despite no strike call, trains were suspended and it will be field day for cabs and other transporters who are charging several fold high rates as compared to train fair.
However, railway official said department is acting on the advice of local administration, particularly police since the safety and security of passengers was important. UNI
