Sehraie voices concern over detention of pro-freedom leaders, activists

Says, ‘NIA has failed to prove charges against incarcerated leaders’

Srinagar, Oct 29 (PR): Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH), Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie concerned over the deteriorating health and illegal detention of pro-freedom leadership and activists. He expressed concern and anguish over the silence maintained by the International organizations not taking any serious note of this inhuman, ill-treatment and lawlessness which prevails since decades now.
In a statement issued to KPS, Sehraie said that even after a passage of more than a year Investigation Agency (NIA) has failed to prove anything against incarcerated leaders languishing in Tihar jail, yet they continue to face illegal confinement which is nothing more than a political vendetta.
Sehraie demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Gh. Mohammad Bhat, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Peer Saifullah, Raja Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Asiya Indrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, Nahida Nasreen, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Aslam Wani, prominent businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali including Syed Shahid Yousuf and Syed Shakeel Ahmad.
He said these leaders had been fabricated in fictious charges as drama in acted by desperate government using the NIA to malign people’s movement and leadership in Kashmir to mislead international community and their own public. The move is an attempt to pressurize and intimidate the resistance leadership, he said.
Sehraie said that Detainees in Tihar jail are subjected to political vengeance. He said those lodged in Tihar jail committed no offence other than to demand the basic birth right.
He appealed to Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other international organizations for human rights to take cognizance of the plight of these detainees and use influence for their release.
In his statement Sehraie said instead to producing before the court submitting the charge sheet against them, their judicial remand deliberately extended, which is against the principle of justice and humanity. He said they have not been allowed to put forth their argument in defense which is gross human rights and prisoners rights. It is a brazen plot to prolong their illegal and unjustified detention.
Meanwhile Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH), Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie expressed grave concern over the worsening health condition of the incarcerated Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist Haji Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Baramulla and said he has been languishing in jail since 2016 despite suffering several ailments. Haji Bashir Ahmad Sofi is a heart patient and he must be provided complete medical assistance and we demand his immediate release.
