Two truck drivers stranded at Zojilla Pass from Sunday

Kashmir 05 Nov: Two truck drivers are stranded at Zojilla Pass in Sonamarg region from Sunday and officials said that efforts are on foot to rescue and evacuate them.
The Snowfall on Saturday disrupted traffic and blocked major connecting roads in Kashmir valley.
Many trucks were remained stranded on Sonamarg-Kargil road due to snowfall.
Officials said that after snow clearance the stranded vehicles and their drivers were evacuated safely.
However, they said that two truck drivers coming from Kargil to Ganderbal were stranded on Zojilla Pass.
“We have made contact with them. They are safe; we are making efforts to rescue and evacuate them to safety as soon as possible,” officials said.
As per officials, at least 11 feet of snow was recorded in the Zojilla Range.
Brig Amit Singh Soham Chief Engineer Project Vijayak Kargil said that BRO is working to rescue and evacuate stranded people at Zojila top.
“We have started operation at 6.30 today morning. We are hopeful to evacuate them today. The operation was called off last night due to bad weather,” he said adding that about 50 trucks stranded have been moved back to Drass from Minamarg.
Commander 762 BRTF Col Rajeev Loaning Project Vijayak said as there is heavy snow accumulation about 10ft and the area is avalanche prone, the operation may take some time but “our officials will successfully evacuate them.”
