Akhoon express concern over damage to apple crop due to snowfall

demand compensation for damaged fruit growers

SRINAGAR, NOV 6 (PR): National Conference Senior Leader Haji Mohd Syed Akhoon  voiced concern over the massive damage caused due to the untimely snowfall across the valley especially in apple rich parts of Srinagar District.

In a statement, Akhoon said thousands of apple trees were damaged in Hazratbal Constituency and upper reaches of the Srinagar district, putting apple growers into distress

Akhoon said the unexpected snowfall damaged fruit trees causing anxiety among apple growers due to massive losses inflicted on their apple harvest and apple trees.

The huge losses due to unexpected snowfall has given a serious blow to the local economy that is already distressed,” he added.

He stressed upon the governor to intervene for immediate assessment and adequate compensation of losses of fruit orchards suffered due to heavy snowfall.

The villages that are badly affected include, Mulfaq, Dhanihama, Teilbal, Batpora, and other areas of the constituency.

Akhoon said while the snowfall plunged the whole Valley into darkness and snapped water, power supply and other basic amenities of life.

“I appeal to the Governor Administration to ensure that painful power cuts are taken care of”.

Akhoon has appealed Governor Lead Administration all to start intense market checking drive across the valley and take strict action against the offenders.
