Srinagar: Management at the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) is under scanner as the complaints surge before Governor led administration.

Managing Director of JKTDC Asif Hamid Khan who is allegedly facing severe complaints of mismanagement and favoritism is likely to face action, sources in the department said.

Sources said that incumbent MD JKTDC has never been to office on time and instead comes at 4pm and leaves around 7pm or 9pm.

“He first elevated a manager who was allegedly his friend to a strong position without knowing his working and then withdrew the same order by himself, sources further added.

According to sources, the General Manager Jammu has already written a letter of wrongdoings of incumbent Managing Director JKTDC to the Chief Secretary.

Sources allege that MD JKTC has never held any meeting with the concerned unit heads nor has he visited any units barring Gulmarg where he enjoyed his trip with his friends and family.

The allegation does not stop here as he recently transferred a middle rung officer from Jammu to Leh for merely speaking truth and presenting a clear picture of the office before higher authorities.

Managing Director of JKTDC Asif Hamid Khan did not attend the Fame Tour held recently in Srinagar which puts to irreparable loss as his relationship was not well with the then Director Tourism.

Seniors officers told Kashmir Press Service that such meeting and events are held once in a year MD JKTDC needs to capitalize such occasions as JKTDC is in dire need of good clientele and unfortunately this time MD JKTDC misses this event again.

Established in 1970 as a fully-owned company of J&K Government, the Corporation owns several hotels and accommodations across the State. The prized assets include hotel Kongposh, Hotel Heemal, Hotel Lala Rukh, Hotel  Jammu Residency, Pahalgam Club and Chesmashai hutments.

Having hutments in almost every tourist destination of the State, the Corporation has bed capacity of 3400 per day.

In 2016, JKTDC proposed outsourcing of Pahalgam Club but no private player showed interest in taking over the assets.

Built in 1960, the historic Club was a centre of tourist attraction before it was gutted in a fire in 2005. After renovation, the club with upgraded facilities was thrown open in 2015 by the then Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.

The Hospitality and Protocol department’s move to outsource Hari Niwas Palace here also drew a poor response.
