Udhampur, Nov 16 (GNS): Army Commander, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh GOC-in-C, Northern Command felicitated teachers of Army Goodwill Schools at an award ceremony held in Udhampur on Friday, a defence spokesman said in a statement.
“The awards were given under three different categories viz Primary, Middle and Secondary level and 24 selected teachers from various Army Goodwill Schools from entire J&K were awarded for their innovative skills in teaching,” the spokesman said.
These teachers were selected after a stringent process based on their teaching ability and creation of innovative teaching aids. The awards were sponsored by Bharti Foundation and included cash prize, trophy and a certificate, he said.
“Bharti Foundation has been providing quality and technical education support to the Army Goodwill Schools for nearly three years”.
The CEO of Bharti Foundation Lt Col Vijay Chadda (Retd) was also present on the occasion, he said.
In the end, the Army Commander applauded the excellent work put in by the Army Goodwill Schools in contributing towards the improvement of education standards in the state of J&K.
He also exhorted the teachers to be role models and mould the students to be responsible citizens of the country.
“The Teachers also thanked the Army for providing them a platform for showcasing their teaching abilities as also for recognizing their contribution. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Principal AGS Wuzur was all praises for the Army for its laudatory efforts in the Army Goodwill Schools. Mr Sajjad Hussain, Teacher AGS Faroona categorically mentioned the positive effects of the Army Goodwill Schools towards build up of aspirations of the youth of J&K”.
Started with just four primary schools in 1998, Northern Command is currently running 45 Army Goodwill Schools under Project Sadbhavana which provides education to 15000 students and employs 1000 teaching and non-teaching staff, he said.
These also include two fully residential public schools one each at Pahalgam and Rajouri, he said.
The schools have constantly endeavoured to co-opt modern teaching aids, such as digital classrooms, modern labs, well-stocked library and excellent sports infrastructure, he said.
Over a period of time these schools have become islands of excellence and are contributing positively to the overall development of youth in J&K, he said. (GNS)
