Srinagar: An 18-month baby was among 20 injured in a village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district where six militants a civilian and an army man were killed in a gunfight early Sunday morning.
Hiba Nisar has a pellet injury in her right eye and requires a surgery doctors said, “She is vomiting and we are waiting for the vomits to stop. Once that happens she will be operated upon,’ a doctor who wished not to be named told The Kashmir Walla at SMHS hospital where Hiba is admitted.
According to her Father Nisar Ahmad, she was injured when tear gas shells landed in the compound of their house, “We were sitting inside our house. However, the intense tear smoke prompted us to leave the house. As soon I opened the door of my house forces fired pellets on us,” he said.
Adding that forces fired pellets towards them, “ Her mother has pellets in her hand,” a grieving Nisar told local news portal.
Mother of Hiba, Fancy Jan said that if she had not taken pellets on her hand the injury on her daughter would have been more grievous, “ I somehow managed to save my daughter,” said a visibly upset Jan who was sitting outside the emergency hall in the hospital.
Ever since entering the hospital, Hiba has not opened her eyes, ” She was writhing in pain. But I think the doctors gave her a pain-killer and she has been sleeping since,” said Jan.
At least twenty people suffered injuries during intense clashes in government forces action in parts of Shopian and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.
The police and paramilitary forces used tear smoke shells, pellets, and live ammunition to disperse the protests. In the incident, at least four youths suffered bullet wounds and sixteen others hit by pellets and tear smoke shells.
