Khalida Shah, Muzaffar Shah pay tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir on his 113th birth anniversary
Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNS): Jammu Kashmir Awami National Conference (JKANC) president Begum Khalida Shah on Tuesday paid glorious tributes to her beloved father Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 113th birth anniversary.
In a statement issued to KNS, Begum Khalida Shah said Sher-e-Kashmir by taking the oppressed Kashmiri nation out of slavery made history the impression of which is still etched in the hearts and minds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is a proud moment for me and my family that our beloved father by rejecting the government job fought for the freedom of his oppressed people and took immense pains and faced hardship throughout his life – all for his love for this nation,” Begum said.
She said Sher-e-Kashmir emerged as a ray of hope for the people of all three regions of the State – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, and invoked in them a sense of confidence and self-esteem.
“Conspiracies were hatched and numerous ploys adopted to break the resolve of Sher-e-Kashmir but the movement he was leading didn’t stop. Even all the diplomatic mechanisms devised against Sheikh Sahib failed as it was out of question to cow down the spirit of the Lion of Kashmir,” she said.
Begum Khalida Shah said the people of Jammu and Kashmir rose above their religious and ideological barriers to join the movement which Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was leading. This movement and the leadership of Sheikh Sahib gained popularity across India, she added.
JKANC senior vice president Muzaffar Shah while paying tributes to his grandfather Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah said history is witness to the fact that when the Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession with India, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah signed the documents on the condition that this agreement will achieve the permanent status only after the people of Jammu and Kashmir acknowledge it.
“For this condition of Sher-e-Kashmir, the then prime minister Mehar Chand Mahajan and the then State Affairs Secretary of India V P Menon are witness,” Muzaffar Shah said, adding, “At that time, Sheikh Sahib was not holding any position in the government.”
JKANC senior vice president said that Article 370, Article 35-A and several similar Acts were incorporated in the Constitution of India by the makers after a thorough deliberation.
And among the makers of the Constitution was also a leader of today’s BJP who is no more, Muzaffar Shah said adding that today’s rulers must first go through the history before making any attempt to erode the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
